Part-time | Friday and Saturday roster
Doncare is seeking an experienced, practical and values-driven Retail Assistant Manager to support the operation of our community opportunity shops.
Reporting to the Retail Operations Coordinator, the Retail Assistant Manager will provide hands-on operational leadership, support volunteers and help ensure the store operates safely, efficiently and professionally.
The position may be ordinarily based at one designated Doncare opportunity shop. However, flexibility to work at another Doncare store in response to roster, leave or operational needs is an important requirement of the role.
This position is suited to an experienced retail professional who can build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, customers and donors and provide calm, consistent leadership during rostered shifts.
About the role
As Retail Assistant Manager, you will:
- Support the effective day-to-day operation of the store
- Provide leadership and guidance to volunteers during rostered shifts
- Assist with store opening, trading and closing procedures
- Deliver a welcoming and high-quality experience for customers and donors
- Monitor sales performance and contribute to the achievement of store budgets
- Oversee donation processing, pricing, stock rotation and presentation
- Maintain high standards of visual merchandising and store presentation
- Ensure cash handling, banking and transactions are completed accurately
- Support volunteer induction, training, communication and development
- Respond to roster and staffing needs as directed
- Provide operational and leave coverage at another Doncare opportunity shop when required
- Ensure compliance with Doncare’s policies, procedures and work health and safety requirements
- Identify and escalate operational, staffing, safety or performance concerns
About you
You will bring:
- Experience in retail supervision, assistant management or store management
- Strong customer service, sales and operational skills
- Experience leading, supporting or coaching staff or volunteers
- Sound knowledge of stock processing, pricing and visual merchandising
- Confidence using point-of-sale and rostering systems
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and respond to changing priorities
- Flexibility to work at another Doncare opportunity shop when roster coverage is required
- A practical, hands-on and collaborative leadership style
- A commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and values-based workplace
Experience working with volunteers, in community retail or within the not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded.
Hours and location
This is a part-time position ordinarily rostered on Fridays and Saturdays.
The position may have a designated primary store. However, the Retail Assistant Manager may be rostered at another Doncare opportunity shop to respond to staff leave, volunteer coverage, vacancies or other operational requirements.
