  • 0.3 FTE / 0.2 FTE | 15 hours per fortnight.

YOUR IMPACT

Diabetes Victoria is seeking a Project Officer to coordinate the delivery of a culturally responsive Vietnamese Diabetes Peer Support Program within the City of Yarra and City of Greater Dandenong.

This role will support the structured implementation of the program, working closely with a bicultural health worker, community organisations, health services, local networks, and representatives from the City of Yarra and the City of Greater Dandenong. The successful candidate will help ensure the program is delivered in a culturally safe, inclusive and practical way, with a strong focus on engagement, health literacy, monitoring and evaluation, and long-term sustainability.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in community health, health promotion, public health or community-based program coordination who is passionate about access, equity and improving outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate weekly implementation of the Vietnamese Diabetes Peer Support Program.
  • Support the bicultural health worker with session planning, preparation and delivery.
  • Help ensure peer support sessions are culturally safe, inclusive and welcoming.
  • Coordinate program logistics, including venues, guest speakers, catering, materials and session requirements.
  • Attend and support peer support sessions as required.
  • Liaise with Vietnamese community organisations, health services, local networks, and representatives from the City of Yarra and the City of Greater Dandenong.
  • Support community outreach and program promotion through culturally appropriate channels.
  • Assist with translation, interpretation and adaptation of health literacy resources.
  • Support the implementation of the evaluation framework, including pre- and post-surveys and feedback processes.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and program indicators.
  • Contribute to final evaluation, reporting and council requirements.

 

ABOUT YOU

You will have strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to build trust and work respectfully with diverse communities and stakeholders.

You will understand the importance of culturally safe engagement and be confident in supporting community-based health initiatives.

You will also bring a practical approach to program delivery, with the ability to coordinate logistics, communicate clearly, monitor progress and contribute to meaningful evaluation and reporting.

  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health, community health, nursing, social sciences or a related field.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Experience coordinating community-based programs or health initiatives.
  • A strong understanding of health literacy and chronic disease management principles.
  • Fluency in Vietnamese (spoken and written) and English, and experience working with Vietnamese communities, are highly desirable.

 

The successful candidate will be required to complete a current Victorian Police Check and hold a current Working with Children Check.
