Life at Coast Shelter

Coast Shelter is a leading Central Coast not for profit charity assisting families, adults and young people with complex issues arising from their experience of homelessness, abuse and neglect. Our vision is to see a community where everyone has a safe place to call home and is empowered to thrive.

You will be joining a team of committed staff and volunteers who are driven by our mission to deliver person centred services to people in crisis within our community who are experiencing homelessness or domestic and family violence. The Role

We are seeking an outstanding Support Worker to join our Adults Program working in one of our Women and Children’s refuges providing day-to-day practical support to women (with or without accompanying children) who are experiencing homelessness and/or family and domestic violence on the NSW Central Coast.

Working alongside another Support Worker, you will help maintain a safe, welcoming environment and support clients to build independence through living skills (cooking, cleaning, budgeting and rental applications), while also assisting case workers to achieve sustainable housing outcomes through rental advocacy and support with sourcing affordable options. This role also includes transport to appointments and inspections, grocery shopping, supporting client move-ins and room/unit turnovers (including cleaning), and helping facilitate program connection activities such as morning teas and a monthly client BBQ.

Success in the role requires an understanding of the causes and impacts of homelessness, a trauma-informed and empathic approach, and the ability to work respectfully with people experiencing disadvantage.

All About You

You have a background and passion for working with Women and Children within homelessness and family and domestic violence services. You focus on working within a client-centred, trauma informed framework and have a demonstrated understanding of child protection, parenting and family work, family violence, mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
