About the Role 

Chosen Family is seeking inclusive, affirming, and compassionate Enrolled Nurses (ENs) passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ participants within disability and community settings. 

The successful candidate will deliver safe, trauma-informed, and identity-affirming supports while fostering emotionally safe and respectful environments for participants from diverse lived experiences. 

Key Responsibilities 

Inclusive Nursing & Participant Supports 

  • Deliver respectful and affirming nursing supports to LGBTQIA+ participants  
  • Maintain appropriate use of chosen names, pronouns, and identities  
  • Support participants experiencing:  
  • Psychosocial disability  
  • Trauma  
  • Social isolation  
  • Mental health challenges  
  • Complex support needs  
  • Assist participants with medication administration, personal care, and daily living supports  
  • Promote participant wellbeing, dignity, and emotional safety  
  • Foster inclusive and non-judgemental support environments  

Clinical Nursing Supports 

  • Assist with delegated clinical supports including:  
  • Wound care  
  • PEG feeding assistance  
  • Continence management  
  • Bowel care  
  • Medication monitoring  
  • Diabetes monitoring  
  • Pressure care  
  • Monitor participant wellbeing and clinical presentations  
  • Escalate concerns and incidents appropriately  
  • Support infection control and workplace safety procedures  

Participant-Centred & Community Supports 

  • Support participants to engage in community access and social participation  
  • Encourage participant independence and confidence-building  
  • Support participant self-expression and autonomy  
  • Promote strengths-based and trauma-informed support approaches  
  • Assist participants to access inclusive healthcare and community services  

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Work collaboratively with families, support networks, and multidisciplinary teams  
  • Maintain respectful and compassionate communication with all stakeholders  
  • Participate in inclusive practice and cultural safety training  
  • Support positive participant and family experiences  

Compliance & Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate progress notes and participant records  
  • Complete incident reporting and clinical documentation  
  • Ensure all supports align with NDIS standards and organisational values  
  • Participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives  
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and culturally safe practices  

Essential Criteria 

  • Diploma of Nursing  
  • Current AHPRA Registration as an Enrolled Nurse  
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check  
  • Current First Aid & CPR  
  • Strong understanding of inclusive and trauma-informed care  

Highly Regarded 

  • Experience supporting LGBTQIA+ communities  
  • Mental health or psychosocial disability experience  
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent participants  
  • Understanding of minority stress and intersectionality
