FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER

Casual position

Hourly Rate: $39.63 per hour (inclusive of casual loading), plus superannuation and penalty rates when applicable

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly capable Casual Front of House Managers who bring proven leadership experience from customer-focused environments such as retail, hospitality, tourism, events, visitor services, entertainment, or other high-volume service industries.

While an appreciation for arts and culture is welcome, this role is first and foremost about people, operations and service delivery. We are looking for someone who understands how to lead teams on the floor, manage customer interactions with confidence and empathy, and maintain high operational standards in fast-paced environments.

The successful candidate will have a track record of delivering outstanding customer experiences, resolving issues calmly and professionally, and motivating frontline teams to perform at their best.

This is a casual, hourly paid position and forms part of a team of Front of House Managers who support activity across the venue. Front of House Managers are rostered monthly, with shifts and hours varying according to the operational needs of the venue and program schedule.

As a key member of the Audience Experience team, the Front of House Managers help create welcoming, safe and memorable experiences for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who engage with Carriageworks each year.

FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Front of House Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring the effective coordination of visitor services across the Carriageworks precinct. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and supervise Front of House staff during events, including audience management, ticket scanning, ushering and staff coordination.
  • Deliver pre-event briefings and post-event debriefs to ensure staff are informed, prepared and supported.
  • Monitor audience flow, venue capacity and crowd behaviour to maintain a safe and positive visitor experience.
  • Conduct venue readiness and safety checks, ensuring spaces are event-ready and compliant with WHS requirements.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, feedback, complaints and accessibility needs in a professional and solutions-focused manner.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and event stakeholders, including Security, Technical, Cleaning, Producers and Hirers.
  • Support emergency management, incident response and event reporting processes as required.
  • Maintain Front of House equipment, accessibility resources and operational supplies.
  • Promote high standards of customer service and identify opportunities to create memorable experiences for audiences, artists and stakeholders.
  • Provide operational support across a range of Front of House functions and event activities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a management capacity in events, hospitality or customer service-based roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, motivating and developing frontline teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and make decisions in a live operational environment.
  • A commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive and accessible experiences for diverse audiences, visitors and communities.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • An interest in arts, culture and live experiences is welcomed, but not essential.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including the capacity to work evenings and weekends.
