About Carers WA:

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

We are recruiting a Vocational Pathways Advisor. This is a full-time fixed-term positions to 30 June 2027. The position attracts a salary of $87,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with17.5% leave loading on annual leave days) and two wellness days per annum.

Position Description

The Vocational Support Advisor supports carers to build vocational pathways through tailored coaching, practical support, and coordinated service delivery. It does this by:

  • Providing end-to-end vocational coaching to help carers engage in employment, education, volunteering, or self-employment.
  • Supporting carers through assessment, goal setting, action planning, and ongoing coaching to build capability and achieve sustainable outcomes.
  • Using a strengths-based, person-centred approach with a focus on measurable progress, service quality, and professional judgement.
  • Delivering flexible, coordinated support in line with the National Service Framework, Carers WA policies, and stakeholder requirements.

The role is both office and community based, as required.

In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure. Typical stressors associated with this role may include exposure to traumatic narratives and difficult situations.

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Relevant qualification in employment services, coaching, social work, psychology, education, or related field (or significant equivalent experience).
  2. Demonstrated experience in providing vocational coaching, case management, or employment-related services from a strengths-based, person-centred approach.
  3. Strong coaching capability, including goal setting, motivational approaches, and behaviour change support.
  4. Demonstrated ability to support individuals with complex barriers to achieve outcomes to employment and education.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of carer issues and the impact of caring responsibilities on employment, wellbeing, and participation.
  6. Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  7. Proven ability to manage caseloads and meet performance and reporting requirements.
  8. High level organisational, time management, and planning skills, with the ability to manage a caseload and competing priorities.
  9. Experience in maintaining accurate client records and completing data collection and reporting requirements.
  10. Competency in client management systems and digital platforms.
  11. Understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and work health and safety practices.
  12. Current C Class Divers License and the ability to travel locally and regionally, as required.
  13. National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
