About Carers WA:
Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

About the Role:
The role is full-time fixed term to 30 June 2028.
The primary focus for this role is to provide 1:1 support and advice to carers with complex needs or who are in crisis and require advocacy assistance. The Individual Advocate provides referrals to appropriate supports and services as required. This role works alongside the Systemic Advocacy and Policy team, raising issues received from carers and service providers and building relationships with other advocacy services.
Flexibility is required to balance outreach work, group work, as well as phone and digital support for carers in the community.
Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. Typical stressors associated with this role may include handling difficult conversations such as conversations around suicidal ideation, and exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Social Work or similar qualification and/or minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience in providing specialist information to support family carers to resolve issues which impacts on their caring role.
- High level negotiation skills and experience in conflict resolution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- An understanding of person-centred, trauma informed, and recovery focused practice.
- High level of competency using computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, customised client databases, virtual communication modes)
- Current C class Drivers Licence and National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment)
- National Police Clearance issue within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment)
- While not essential, an understanding of carers issues and needs is desirable (e.g. lived experience).
