About by charlotte
by charlotte is a multi-channel Australian jewellery and accessories retailer in an exciting growth phase — scaling our store footprint, deepening our DTC eCommerce capability, and building out wholesale and international channels. As we scale, the commercial decisions we make on pricing, promotion, range and channel mix get bigger, faster and more data-rich.
The Role
The Commercial Analyst is a new role created to bring sharper commercial insight to those decisions. Sitting within Finance and partnering closely with Buying, Merchandising, Marketing, Retail Operations and Digital, you’ll transform data into clear, actionable insights that help leaders make better decisions and deliver the strategy. You’ll work directly with the Director of Finance & IT and have a genuine seat at the table for the commercial conversations that shape our growth.
What You’ll Do
- Analyse financial and customer performance across categories, channels and cohorts to identify growth drivers and opportunities.
- Partner with Buying, Merchandising and Marketing to measure initiative effectiveness and surface insights across pricing, promotions and range.
- Build and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning and investment decisions.
- Contribute to cash flow forecasts, margin forecasting and channel P&L reporting.
- Design tools, dashboards and self-serve reporting that scale with the business.
- Support new store openings and international expansion through business case modelling and post-implementation review.
- Integrate data from multiple systems (website, ERP, accounting, customer platforms) to answer complex commercial questions.
- Apply AI tools to accelerate analysis, automate repeatable tasks and improve output quality.
- Translate complex analysis into clear narratives and present recommendations confidently to senior leaders.
About You
You’ll shine in this role if you are as strong with people as you are with data — calm under pressure, structured in how you approach problems, and with a natural ability to distil complex analysis into the two or three things that actually matter, in plain language that drives action. You earn trust quickly, partner effectively across functions, and hold yourself to a high standard: you see a piece of work through to a decision, not just to a deliverable.
You’ll also bring:
- 3–6 years’ experience in a commercial analyst, FP&A, pricing analyst or finance business partner role, ideally in retail, FMCG, eCommerce or consumer products.
- Advanced Excel modelling skills, with the ability to build models from first principles.
- Proven ability to work with large, complex datasets across multiple systems.
- Strong retail commercial acumen — pricing, promotions, range, margin and markdown.
- Fluency across core financial metrics: gross margin, contribution, working capital, ROI and unit economics.
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Data Analytics or related field.
- Experience with platforms such as Shopify, GA4 or equivalent ERP and wholesale systems.
- Working knowledge of SQL, Power BI, Tableau or similar BI tools.
- Practical experience with AI tools in an analytical context, or a strong appetite to build it.
