Position Summary
The HSE Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Buttrose Earthmovers’ Health, Safety, Environment (HSE Management System) across civil construction, quarrying, crushing, and earthmoving operations.
The role works closely with project managers, supervisors, employees, subcontractors, and clients to promote a positive safety culture, ensure legislative compliance, and assist in achieving company and project HSE objectives. The HSE Coordinator plays a key role in incident prevention, risk management, auditing, training, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all projects and work sites.

Conduct site inspections, audits, and workplace observations.

Assist in the development, implementation, and review of SWMS, JSEAs, SOPs, and Safe Work Procedures.

Facilitate site inductions and onboarding of employees and contractors.
-
Participate in risk assessments and hazard identification activities.
-
Assist supervisors with incident investigations and corrective actions.
-
Monitor and track safety performance indicators.
-
Coordinate health monitoring and worker fitness-for-work programs.
-
Support return-to-work and injury management activities.
Environmental Management
-
Monitor compliance with environmental approvals, licences, and management plans.
-
Conduct environmental inspections and audits.
-
Assist with waste management, dust suppression, noise monitoring, erosion control, and spill prevention activities.
-
Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective actions.
-
Support environmental reporting requirements for clients and regulators.
Quality Management
-
Support implementation of the Integrated Management System (IMS).
-
Participate in internal audits and management system reviews.
-
Assist with document control and records management.
-
Monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure closure.
-
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Reporting

Ensure compliance with applicable WHS legislation, environmental legislation, client requirements, and company policies.

Prepare and maintain HSE reports, statistics, and registers.

Assist with regulatory inspections and client audits.
-
Monitor training, competency, and licence requirements.
-
Maintain incident, hazard, and corrective action registers.
Training & Communication
-
Deliver toolbox talks, safety alerts, and awareness campaigns.
-
Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees.
-
Assist with the development and delivery of HSE training programs.

Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
-
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role within civil construction, mining, quarrying, transport, or earthmoving industries.

Sound understanding of WHS legislation and risk management principles.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Experience conducting workplace inspections and audits.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
-
Current driver’s licence.
-
White Card.
Desirable
-
Diploma in Work Health and Safety.
-
Internal Auditor qualification.
-
ICAM or incident investigation training.
-
Return to Work Coordinator training.

Environmental management experience.
-
Experience working on major infrastructure, renewable energy, or civil construction projects.
