This full-time role of Youth Housing Specialist supports our mission by providing crisis, brief intervention and ongoing planned support to young people including BYS tenants, enabling young people to successfully transition into independent living. This position works collaboratively with other teams within BYS, key partners and the broader community to effectively respond to issues associated with housing and homelessness.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Sciences or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, applying supported housing principles and a trauma-informed lens to engage and support young people, including those who may face barriers to participation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a community housing provider in accordance with the National Regulatory System of Community Housing (NRSCH).
  • Strong organisational and planning skills and the ability to work independently and contribute positively within a team.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and writing skills and the ability to advocate on behalf of others.

 Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases – Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox], and Pertussis [Whooping Cough].
