Description

  • Full-time position based in Narooma, NSW with weekly travel to Batemans Bay and Bega.
  • Relocation support of up to $5,000 plus up to 6 weeks rent assistance (where applicable)

We are supporting our client, Katungul Aboriginal Corporation to find a values-driven and experienced leader to join the organisation as Chief Operating Officer (COO). This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role within a respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, supporting strong operational performance, culturally safe service delivery, and positive outcomes for Aboriginal communities across the Far South Coast of NSW.

Working closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, the COO will provide strategic and operational leadership across the organisation, ensuring programs, people, systems, and resources are aligned to Katungul’s vision, strategic objectives, and community priorities.

This is a hands-on executive leadership role suited to someone who thrives in complex environments, leads with integrity and emotional intelligence, and is passionate about strengthening Aboriginal health and wellbeing outcomes.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organisation while driving continuous improvement, accountability, and sustainable growth across all service areas.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic operational leadership across the organisation
  • Supporting the implementation of Katungul’s strategic plan and organisational priorities
  • Overseeing operational performance, service delivery, compliance, and risk management
  • Leading financial management activities including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and operational oversight
  • Driving organisational improvement initiatives, systems development, and performance reporting
  • Leading, mentoring, and supporting managers and teams across multiple sites
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community, government, and partner organisations
  • Supporting a positive, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and high-performing workplace culture

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring significant senior leadership experience, ideally within the health, community services, or Aboriginal Community Controlled sector.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strong operational leadership and people management capability
  • Experience managing complex programs, services, and organisational operations
  • Highly developed financial management and business acumen
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience leading organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives
  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal health, community priorities, and culturally safe practice
  • Emotional intelligence, resilience, and a collaborative leadership approach
  • Knowledge of governance, compliance, funding agreements, and operational risk management

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, management, or a related discipline
  • Current driver licence

  • NSW Police Check

Location & Travel

This is a full-time position based in Narooma, NSW.

The role requires regular travel across Katungul’s service footprint, including at least weekly travel to Batemans Bay and Bega. A fleet vehicle will be provided for work-related travel between sites.

Please note this is a predominantly on-site leadership role, with only occasional work-from-home flexibility depending on operational requirements.
