This is an entry-level developmental position designed specifically to provide a local Ngarrindjeri community member with the opportunity to build foundational skills and practical capabilities in office administration.

Operating under the guidance and mentorship of our Office Manager and Chief Executive, you will develop the fundamental skills needed to run a professional front-desk reception, manage workplace documentation, and support our broader team in a welcoming environment.

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities You Will Learn to Manage:

  • Reception and Customer Service: Act as the first point of contact for NAC, providing a professional and culturally respectful welcome to community members and visitors. You will manage the front desk, answer phone calls, take messages, and ensure our reception and meeting rooms are perfectly prepared for visitors or board meetings.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the Office Manager with daily office routines, including filing, scanning, photocopying, sorting mail, and learning basic data entry skills to support project records and community databases.
  • Communication and Social Media: Support our Project Coordinators by drafting basic updates for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat), distributing flyers and newsletters locally, and helping set up materials for community events and workshops.
  • Work Health and Safety: Develop safe workplace habits by taking care of your health and safety, following manual handling procedures, and reporting any hazards or office maintenance issues to the Office Manager.
  • Training and Development: Actively participate in internal training sessions to learn NAC’s systems—including SharePoint and office equipment—while building professional workplace habits.

About You (Selection Criteria)

No prior office experience is required! We are looking for potential, reliability, and a strong desire to grow with us.

  • Interpersonal Skills: A friendly and helpful attitude, with the ability to talk comfortably and respectfully with community members, Elders, and staff.
  • Basic Technology Skills: General familiarity with using a computer and a strong willingness to learn Microsoft Office tools like Word and Outlook.
  • Commitment to Learning: A genuine interest in pursuing a career in administration and the dedication to complete a structured development program.
  • Reliability: Strong attendance, excellent punctuality, and the ability to follow a structured work and study schedule.
