About the Role:

The Safe and Strong Families Caseworker will be responsible for engaging, enhancing and empowering Aboriginal families, communities and relevant agencies to work together within a culturally safe, trauma aware service delivery framework, to reduce the occurrence of family/domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse and neglect of children and young people within Aboriginal communities

The key objectives of the role include:

  • Deliver targeted, trauma informed, culturally safe and healing focused support to Aboriginal children, young people and families to strengthen protective factors and reduce risks associated with child abuse, neglect and family violence.
  • Undertake comprehensive, strengths based and family led assessment, including safety planning, recognising children and young people as victim survivors in their own right where family violence is present.
  • Provide coordinated, wraparound case management, working collaboratively with families and partner services to deliver holistic responses addressing safety, health, education, economic, community and cultural needs.
  • Support parents and carers to build positive parenting capacity, confidence and wellbeing, addressing underlying factors impacting family safety and supporting safe, nurturing and stable home environments.
  • Deliver or facilitate individualised youth support, prioritising the young person’s voice, autonomy and participation in decision making, including individualised case support, advocacy, mentoring, referrals, practical assistance and pathways to education, training or employment.
  • Maintain strong referral pathways and partnerships with specialist services (including family violence, mental health, AOD, disability, housing and justice services) to ensure timely, coordinated and culturally appropriate responses.

Essential Criteria:

  • Confirmation of Aboriginality.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health or Certificate IV in Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Work (11080NAT), or willingness to commence and complete within six (6) months of employment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children, young people and families using culturally safe, trauma‑informed and healing‑focused approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting families impacted by child abuse, neglect and/or family violence.
  • Experience providing strengths‑based, family‑led case management to address complex and interrelated needs.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands.
  • Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including National Police Check and Working with Children clearance.
  • Current valid Driver’s license, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent.
