About the Role

Biodiversity Australia is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of environmental and land management projects throughout the Western Downs region, based from our Toowoomba office.

This is a key leadership role within our operations team, responsible for overseeing multiple projects across environmental management, vegetation management, rehabilitation, monitoring, biosecurity, and land stewardship programs. Working with major clients across the energy, infrastructure, government, resources, and environmental sectors, you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to field-based teams, coordinate resources and project schedules, manage client relationships, and drive strong commercial and operational outcomes. You will work closely with internal technical specialists, Unit Business Manager, and operational leaders to ensure projects are executed effectively while maintaining Biodiversity Australia’s reputation for excellence.

This role would suit an experienced Project Manager who enjoys balancing people leadership, client engagement, project delivery, and commercial accountability in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of environmental and land management projects throughout the Western Downs region.
  • Lead project planning, mobilisation, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor project performance, financial outcomes, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional communication and service delivery.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks and operational challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with all WHS, environmental, quality, and client requirements.
  • Prepare project reports, forecasts, progress updates, and performance reporting.
  • Support business development initiatives and contribute to tender and proposal activities.
  • Foster a positive and accountable team culture aligned with Biodiversity Australia’s values.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in project management, operations management, or a similar leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects within environmental management, vegetation management, civil infrastructure, agriculture, natural resources, construction, mining, energy, or related industries.
  • Strong project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and commercial management skills.
  • Experience managing project profitability, resource utilisation, and operational performance.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and coordinating field-based teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • A commitment to workplace safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
  • High-level organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence.

Highly Desirable:

  • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Project Management, Civil Construction, Business Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within the Western Downs region.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance, land management, rehabilitation, vegetation management, or biosecurity programs.
  • Experience working with government, energy, infrastructure, or resource sector clients.
