    Objectives of position

    • Responsible for the provision of the highest level of support to consumers and staff team, the cleanliness of the organisation, understanding of the Aged Care Quality Standards and the policies and procedures of Barunga Village.

    Summary of position

    • Ultimately responsible for the cleanliness of the houses across the residential home, laundry-related duties and re-stocking of household supplies, along with the cleanliness of the wider organisation.

    • Key responsibilities
    • Responsibilities of your role
    • Responsible for the cleanliness of all areas of the residential home in accordance with the approved cleaning program.
    • As directed by the Operations Manager, provide indirect support as per the model of care, such as assisting at meal times.
    • Responsible for re-stocking of household supplies.
    • Ensure there is accurate documentation of duties completed and support delivered.
    • Working to maintain a physical and psychosocial environment that ensures the privacy, dignity, individuality, choice and rights of the consumer.
    • Communicate effectively with consumers and staff.
    • Responding effectively to unexpected situations within own level of skill and competence.
    • Any other duties commensurate with the employee’s skills and experience as directed by the Operations Manager.

    • Adhere to defined work, health and safety policies and procedures related to the work being undertaken in order to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
    • Reporting of any possible hazards in the workplace and community.
    • Reporting of any ‘near misses’ and participation in incident/accident investigations as necessary.
    • Comply with Barunga Village Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures including Outbreak Management procedures.

    • Participate in all mandatory training programs such as Emergency Response and Manual Handling education as directed.

    • Person specifications

    • Essential qualifications and experience
    • There are no mandatory education requirements.
    • Proficient in using a computer and smartphone.
    • Must have fastidious attention to detail to maintain a high standard of cleaning.

    • Desirable qualifications and experience

    • Previous experience in housekeeping and/or aged care support in an aged care home or similar environment is desirable.
    • An understanding of handling chemicals.
    • Knowledge of the Aged Care Quality Standards.
    • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • Demonstrate an awareness of the legal implications of actions taken in aged care.

    • Possess sound interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication skills.
    • Able to work as an effective team member and maintain confidentiality.
    • Able to prioritise tasks to best meet the needs of the consumer and Barunga Village.

    • Physical fitness appropriate for duties, which involve prolonged and significant activity including lifting, walking, bending and stretching.
    • Conditions
    • Must provide a NDIS worker screening clearance that is dated not more than five years old to enable the assessment of whether the employee is suitable to provide care under the Aged Care Act. This clearance must remain updated by the employee during the contract period.
    • Must comply with Barunga Village’s immunisation policies and procedures at all times.
    • Must sign a statutory declaration to identify serious criminal activity committed outside of Australia.
    • Must pass a pre-capacity health assessment to ensure physical fitness level is appropriate for duties.
    • Must comply with Barunga Village’s Code of Conduct.
