About the role

Permanent | Full time | Naarm (Melbourne) 

We’re looking for a Policy Advisor, Practice and Standards to join our team. In this role, you’ll support the development of evidence-informed policy and advocacy that advances mental health care, psychiatric practice, and better outcomes across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Working closely with subject matter experts, members, committees, and external stakeholders, you’ll lead policy research, analysis, and project delivery that informs our strategic positions and shapes our advocacy priorities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify emerging policy issues and provide evidence-informed advice to support mental health system improvement and RANZCP advocacy priorities
  • Conduct research and analysis across mental health policy, health systems, and regulatory frameworks, monitoring sector developments and their implications
  • Develop policy outputs including submissions, position statements, practice guidance, and briefing materials
  • Lead and deliver policy and strategic projects from scoping through to implementation
  • Build strong relationships with committees, members and stakeholders, providing policy support and secretariat duties to committees and working groups

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (health, social science, public policy, or related field)
  • Demonstrated experience in health policy, including understanding of relevant legislative, regulatory and funding frameworks
  • Strong research, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for diverse audiences
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in the mental health, membership-based, or not-for-profit sector highly regarded
