About APNA

The Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) is the peak and professional body for nurses working in primary health care. APNA champions the role of primary health care nurses; to advance professional recognition, ensure workforce sustainability, nurture leadership in health, and optimise the role of nurses in person-centred care.

 

About the role

The role leads organisational development initiatives that strengthen culture, engagement, leadership capability and organisational effectiveness across APNA. Working closely with leaders and teams, the position supports practical and people-focused approaches to change, performance, development and workforce experience.

The role is hybrid based in Melbourne (APNA’s head office is in the CBD).

 

Change Management and Organisational Alignment

  • Lead and embed APNA’s approach to change, ensuring initiatives are well-sequenced, communicated and sustained
  • Develop and apply practical tools such as change impact assessments, readiness frameworks, and transition plans
  • Support leaders and teams to navigate change with clarity, confidence and resilience
  • Ensure “closing loops” practices are embedded so that decisions, consultations and initiatives are visibly completed

Culture and Engagement

  • Strengthen a culture aligned to APNA’s values and strategic intent
  • Design and implement initiatives that build psychological safety, trust and shared accountability
  • Lead employee engagement processes including pulse surveys, insight synthesis and action planning
  • Support leaders to translate cultural aspirations into everyday behaviours and team practices

Performance, Development and Feedback

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of APNA’s performance and development framework
  • Embed regular, meaningful performance conversations that integrate accountability and growth
  • Support capability development across the organisation, including leadership development and coaching
  • Ensure development practices align with APNA’s commitment to being a deliberately developmental organisation

Leadership and Team Development

  • Coach and support leaders to strengthen their effectiveness, particularly in leading change and people
  • Design and facilitate leadership development experiences aligned with APNA’s strategic priorities
  • Support the Strategic Alignment Team (SAT) to operate as a cohesive and high-performing leadership group

Workforce Experience and Wellbeing

  • Contribute to a mentally healthy workplace through initiatives that support wellbeing, resilience and sustainable performance
  • Identify and respond to emerging workforce risks such as overload, disengagement or misalignment
  • Support practices that balance pace with consolidation and recovery

Systems, Tools and Capability

  • Develop and maintain practical OD tools, frameworks, and resources that are accessible and used
  • Build internal capability so that OD is not centralised but embedded across the organisation
  • Use data and insights to inform decision-making and track progress over time
