Position Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and engineering expertise across the design, construction, commissioning, and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects.
Working closely with Project Managers, construction teams, subcontractors, consultants, and clients, this role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, supporting project delivery teams, managing technical risks, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
This position is based on a major renewable energy project located in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland and operates on a 2 weeks on / 1 week off (2:1) FIFO/DIDO roster, with accommodation provided during rostered work periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate electrical engineering activities across utility-scale renewable energy and HV electrical infrastructure projects.
- Manage engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including design reviews, technical assessments, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and project handover.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project delivery teams, ensuring engineering solutions are practical, compliant, and cost-effective.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, network service providers, and regulatory authorities to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Review and approve electrical designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, Australian Standards, client requirements, and statutory regulations.
- Support project planning, scheduling, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting activities.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and project risks, contributing to overall project risk management strategies.
- Manage and oversee subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure quality, safety, and performance expectations are achieved.
- Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations, supplier selection, and equipment reviews.
- Assist with contract administration activities, including technical assessments of variations and claims.
- Provide engineering support during construction activities, troubleshooting technical issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Lead testing, commissioning, energisation, and project completion activities.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure compliance with project documentation requirements.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture aligned with company values and project objectives.
Required Skills and Experience
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- RPEQ registration or eligibility to obtain RPEQ registration in Queensland.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering within a contractor, EPC, or renewable energy project environment.
- Demonstrated experience delivering utility-scale solar, BESS, and/or HV electrical infrastructure projects.
- Prior Principal Contractor and/or EPC-BOS project experience.
- Experience delivering projects for utility-scale renewable energy clients.
- Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000, MV and HV electrical systems, and grid connection requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, consultants, and engineering design processes.
- Sound knowledge of project delivery methodologies, construction practices, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
