Help build an institutional-grade investment portfolio that delivers returns and real-world impact.
Location: Bundoora, Victoria
Employment Type: Full-time, ongoing
Most investors wait for certainty. We invest before it exists.
Agriculture Victoria Services (AVS) is building a sophisticated investment platform focused on backing breakthrough technologies capable of transforming agriculture while delivering attractive
commercial returns and measurable real-world impact.
Our focus is on identifying and supporting innovations where science, engineering and entrepreneurship intersect—agricultural biotechnology, advanced engineering, artificial
intelligence and other deep technologies with the potential to solve meaningful industry challenges.
We’re not looking for someone to model certainty. We’re looking for someone who can evaluate technical risk, identify commercial potential and build investment conviction before the market does.
We’re seeking an experienced Investment Advisor to work closely with our Head of Investment to source opportunities, assess investments, build conviction and help shape a high-impact portfolio.
You’ll evaluate opportunities where technical risk remains significant, where commercial pathways are still emerging, and where thoughtful capital allocation can unlock substantial value.
Importantly, our mandate extends beyond traditional venture capital. While many opportunities will involve pre-seed, seed and Series A investments, we also pursue alternative pathways including
project-based investments, royalty structures and other innovative approaches to creating and capturing value.
This is not a traditional advisory role. It is an opportunity to operate as an investor, influence investment decisions and help build an investment platform from the ground up.
The Opportunity
As an Investment Advisor, you’ll play a key role in identifying, evaluating and supporting investments across the agritech and agricultural biotechnology ecosystem.
You’ll work across the full investment lifecycle—from opportunity identification and due diligence through to portfolio management and value creation—helping transform breakthrough technologies into scalable, commercially successful outcomes.
Working closely with the Head of Investment, you will:
- Source and assess investment opportunities across agritech, agricultural biotechnology and related deep-technology sectors
- Identify technologies and ventures capable of creating meaningful economic, environmental and industry impact
- Conduct commercial, technical and financial due diligence to identify key risks, value drivers and pathways to scale
- Evaluate opportunities spanning biology, engineering, automation, data and artificial intelligence
- Develop investment theses, investment memoranda, valuation analyses and financial models
- Assess technologies progressing from technical validation through to commercial adoption and scale
- Structure and evaluate a range of investment opportunities, including venture investments, project-based investments and royalty arrangements
- Engage directly with founders, researchers, executives, industry participants and co-investors
- Support investment structuring, negotiation and transaction execution activities
- Contribute to portfolio construction, capital allocation and investment strategy development
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities to grow value and impact across the portfolio
- Support portfolio companies and projects through strategic advice, problem-solving and ecosystem connections where appropriate
Success in this role will require the ability to form investment conviction in situations where information is incomplete, technical uncertainty remains high and outcomes are not yet
obvious.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who thinks like a deep-tech investor.
You are intellectually curious, commercially minded and energised by understanding how breakthrough technologies become successful businesses.
You know that great technology alone is not enough. Commercial adoption, market dynamics, execution and timing matter just as much.
You may come from venture capital, startup leadership, corporate venture, business development, product strategy, management consulting, biotechnology, engineering, agribusiness or another
environment where emerging technologies are evaluated, developed, sold or scaled.
We’re particularly interested in people who have been directly involved in building, scaling, funding, evaluating or selling innovative technologies and technology-based businesses.
You’ll likely bring:
- Experience assessing investment opportunities, emerging technologies, strategic initiatives or growth ventures
- Strong commercial judgement and structured problem-solving capability
- Experience evaluating technical, commercial, regulatory and execution risks
- An understanding of how technologies progress from technical validation to market adoption
- The ability to link technical milestones, product development and capital requirements to commercial outcomes
- Strong analytical capability, including financial modelling, valuation and scenario analysis
- Experience working with founders, engineers, scientists, product teams or commercial leaders
- The ability to synthesise complex information into clear investment insights and recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence operating in environments characterised by ambiguity, uncertainty and rapid learning
We care less about your exact career path and more about your ability to make sound investment judgements.
Exceptional candidates may come from non-traditional backgrounds, including startup founders, operators, engineers, scientists or commercial leaders who have built, scaled or successfully brought
innovative technologies to market.
