Description

About AMS

Aerodrome Management Services (AMS) is a leading provider of aviation and aerodrome management services across Australia. We deliver specialist technical, operational and compliance expertise to aerodrome owners and operators, supporting safe, efficient and sustainable airport operations.

The work you do here has a direct and visible impact on operational outcomes, not just theoretical designs. Our Technical Services team works across a diverse portfolio of projects, providing engineering, design, and advisory services for aerodrome infrastructure nationwide.

About the Role

AMS is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to join our Technical Services team, based at our head office near Perth Airport.

This role provides specialist engineering and consultancy services across aerodrome electrical infrastructure, including airfield ground lighting (AGL), navigation aids, control systems and power distribution networks.

While Perth-based, the role includes regular travel to regional and remote aerodromes to support inspections, investigations, project delivery and commissioning activities.

You will play a key role across the full project lifecycle—from concept and design through to construction, commissioning and ongoing asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review aerodrome electrical systems (AGL, NAVAIDs, control systems, power networks)
  • Oversight of electrical design and compliance assurance
  • Management of stakeholder standards and specifications documentation and auditing
  • Perform engineering analysis (load, fault level, power quality, lighting design)
  • Involvement in electrical tenders and stakeholder engagement
  • Prepare and review drawings, specifications and technical documentation
  • Provide technical advice on asset performance, condition and lifecycle
  • Conduct peer reviews of internal and external designs
  • Undertake site inspections, surveys and condition assessments
  • Support installation, testing and commissioning activities
  • Monitor construction to ensure compliance with design, safety and quality standards
  • Assist with procurement, including technical evaluations and contract documentation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project delivery
  • Travel to regional and remote aerodromes as required
  • Ensure compliance with CASA Part 139 MOS and relevant standards
  • Apply QA/QC processes and review deliverables for accuracy and completeness
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and aerodrome operators
  • Prepare technical reports, briefings and design documentation
  • Contribute to project scoping, proposals and tender submissions

About You

You are a technically capable and solutions-focused Electrical Engineer with an interest in aviation infrastructure. You are comfortable working across both office-based design and site-based project environments.

You’ll also contribute to the integration and review of modern electrical infrastructure, including Extra Low Voltage (ELV) and solar/battery storage systems. This will involve ensuring designs align with relevant Australian Standards (including AS/NZS 5139 where applicable), as well as reviewing and verifying compliance with client-specific electrical standards and specifications to ensure safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose outcomes

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in electrical design, power systems or infrastructure projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively

Highly regarded:

  • Experience with airfield ground lighting or aerodrome electrical systems
  • Knowledge of CASA Part 139 or aviation standards
  • Licenced Chartered Engineer
  • Exposure to Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems and solar/battery storage design (e.g. AS/NZS 5139)
  • Experience in commissioning, site supervision or contractor management
  • Exposure to renewable or solar-integrated power systems

Why AMS?

At AMS, you’ll be part of a business that plays a critical role in Australia’s aviation industry, particularly across regional and remote communities. You’ll gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of the business, working on projects that have real impact rather than theoretical outcomes.

We offer a highly collaborative environment where you’ll have direct access to senior leaders, giving you a rare opportunity to learn how strategic decisions are made and implemented. We now provide a ‘one-stop’ service covering all aspects of aerodrome and airport management, from engineering, design, and construction services to inspections, training, and equipment supply. Our Founder, Kevin Thomas, has over 30 years of experience in airport operation and management. Before starting AMS he was the Manager – Airports for Wallace Emery and Associates (then owners of Broome Airport) and prior to that the District Airport Inspector with the Department of Aviation. In recent years Aerodrome Management Services has expanded greatly and now employs more than 160 personnel throughout Australia, including aerodrome inspectors, trainers, works managers, compliance auditors, engineers, draftsman, operational advisors, ground handlers, refuellers, security personnel and managers.
