About the Role
The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead the delivery of strategic organisational projects and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
This role will be responsible for establishing and managing project management office (PMO) practices, implementing project governance frameworks, and supporting the successful delivery of key strategic priorities. The Project Manager will work closely with the Executive Team, Operations Manager, Program Managers and Finance team to ensure projects are delivered effectively, efficiently and in alignment with organisational objectives.

Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain project management methodologies, governance frameworks, templates and reporting systems across AH&MRC.
- Lead and manage strategic organisational projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring delivery within agreed scope, budget and timelines.
- Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, business cases and implementation strategies.
- Monitor project risks, issues, dependencies and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Facilitate project governance processes, including steering committees, working groups and executive reporting.
- Work collaboratively with the Operations Manager to identify and implement business process improvement initiatives.
- Conduct process mapping, workflow reviews and business analysis activities to improve operational efficiency.
- Support organisational change management activities associated with new systems, processes and projects.
- Develop and maintain project budget tracking tools, forecasts and expenditure reports.
- Support program teams with project financial management, resource planning and reporting requirements.
- Prepare high-quality project reports, executive briefs, dashboards and performance updates.
- Maintain project registers, risk logs and reporting frameworks to support organisational oversight and decision-making.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs).
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Business, Public Health, Management or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years’ experience in project management, PMO management, business improvement or operational leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing projects from inception to completion.
- Experience establishing project governance frameworks, reporting systems and project controls.
- Strong experience in project budgeting, financial monitoring and resource planning.
- Experience facilitating stakeholder engagement and managing competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Experience working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, the Aboriginal health sector or not-for-profit sector is highly desirable.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse business processes and implement practical improvement initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, executive briefings and business documentation.
- Strong financial acumen with experience monitoring project budgets and expenditure.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Teams, SharePoint and project tracking systems.
- Ability to work independently while building strong collaborative relationships across teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of Closing the Gap priorities, the NSW Aboriginal Health Plan and the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector is desirable.
- Willingness to travel across NSW as required.
