Marketing and Communications Officer

Location: Hybrid (3 days in office 2 days from home optional)

Contract: Permanent Part or Full Time

Hourly Rate: $42.10 per hour ($83,186 per annum pro rata)

About the Role

The Marketing and Communications Officer brings Wheatbelt NRM’s stories to life through creative design, digital media, and strategic communication. This role leads the creation of engaging social media content, manages website updates, and crafts compelling visual and written materials that showcase our projects and impact. Working closely with project teams, the Officer boosts visibility and engagement across platforms while tracking and reporting on digital performance to help strengthen community connection and project outcomes.

Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management is a non-profit organisation working in partnership with community, biodiversity, agriculture and government to provide regional leadership and direction for sustainable land use and the conservation of natural resources in the Avon River Basin of Western Australia. Selection Criteria

Applicants must address the following criteria in a cover note, supported by a resume demonstrating relevant experience.

Technical Skills

  1. Demonstrated experience in digital engagement, media marketing, or electronic communications.
  2. Proficiency in graphic design and content creation using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  3. Experience managing websites (e.g. Squarespace or similar) and producing e-newsletters (e.g. Mailchimp).

Communication Skills

  1. Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and brand-aligned content.

Self-Management

  1. Demonstrated ability to work independently within established processes and timelines.
  2. Willingness to take initiative, seek feedback, and adapt to changing priorities.

Time Management

  1. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  2. Proven capacity to manage competing priorities across projects while maintaining high attention to detail.
  3. Ability to plan and deliver timely outputs aligned with project deliverables and reporting cycles.

Data Analysis

  1. Ability to collect, analyse and report on digital engagement metrics to inform communication strategies.

Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management is an independent, community-based organisation that provides leadership in the management of natural resources of the Avon River Basin of WA. We aim for the sustainable use and enjoyment of the unique natural resources of the Wheatbelt. We are a dynamic, passionate team engaging the Wheatbelt community in the protection and enhancement of our natural environment. We have three key streams of activity. The Healthy Environments team works to protect and enhance the Wheatbelt’s biodiversity. The Sustainable Agriculture team focuses on sustainable, resilient agricultural systems and soil health. The Aboriginal NRM Program provides pathways to employment on country through Ranger programs and works to support the Ballardong Elders group to implement the Koort Boodjar – Mia Boodjar Aboriginal NRM Action Plan 2021-2026.
