About Team Medical Supplies
Team Medical Supplies is a primary care medical consumables and equipment supplier. Founded in 2011, they pride themselves on being a trusted supplier of medical consumables, equipment, accessories and more. Their growth over the years has led to them supplying most medical centres, and many day surgeries, podiatrists, dentists, cosmetic clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and general practitioners around Australia.
What started as a business with less than 10 employees has quickly grown to over 110 employees. They supply thousands of regular customers and continue to expand throughout Australia. With growth front and centre for Team Medical Supplies, they needed a system that could scale with them.
We spoke with Kelly Zillman, Accounts, HR & Payroll Manager at Team Medical Supplies about the difference Employment Hero HR and Payroll have made to their business.

Manual, manual, manual…

For Kelly, processing payroll for 60 people was a time-consuming task, and as the business grew – so did the admin. She was looking for a solution that could reduce time spent in spreadsheets so she could focus on other areas of her role.
“When I joined, we had 60 or 70 staff, and it was really manual. I was brought on to look after the payroll. It was quite manual, there were a lot of spreadsheets and we didn’t make use of another system. As we grow, I think we’ve now got 110 employees on the payroll now. We were finding it hard to scale the systems because the way we were operating just wasn’t efficient.”

“The self service element of onboarding is great. I don’t need to be changing their personal details, their addresses, their bank accounts, their super funds, you know – it becomes a really time-consuming job. It makes more sense to sit with the individual.”
Another win for Kelly was how everything with Employment Hero works together. Employee self-service is linked to both payroll and timesheets, helping take the pressure off her come payroll time.
“It was all captured on spreadsheets previously. They were all really manual. The iPad kiosk, checking in and checking out and being able to upload into payroll is great, certainly leave requests, people are able to do those on their phone.”
However, the best part for Team Medical Supplies is the impact it’s had on their staff – “they realise it just makes their life easier. The can do it all themselves – check their payslip, change bank account details or log a leave request. It’s just easier.”
The Certifications feature has also made a huge impact on Kelly and her team, being “another area we weren’t thinking too much about until we started using Employment Hero. We have, for example, first aid certificates or forklift licences. They all get loaded in and I can run a report on a periodic basis to check if they’ve expired.”

So we were able to use that and get it loaded into Employment Hero, and that will be acknowledged by those individual staff. It’s a very real help and I can quite easily see who I need to follow up who hasn’t done them.”

Every request might not go through, but some of them get sent off to developers, and it’s considered.”
