Summary of the role:
Working as part of our Engineering team, as a Mechanical Robotic Specialist Technician, you will work at the most advanced container terminal in the world, located in Port Melbourne, Victoria, working with highly automated equipment including, Automated Stacking Cranes, Automated Container Carriers as well as remotely operated equipment such as Ship to Shore Cranes, completing work to the highest standard and ensuring continual improvement of equipment reliability and performance metrics.
You will be self-motivated to work in a challenging and high pressure environment, finding solutions and improvements while working as a contributing team player and ensuring all activities are undertaken in compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
Through on the job training and development you will learn and develop yourself becoming an expert in the field of automation at a state of the art equipment and facility.

Key requirements of the role:
- Carry out electrical and mechanical fault finding, emergency break down and general repair work on ASC, STS, ACC, ALP and any ancillary equipment.
- Carry out Preventative Maintenance (PM) as required in compliance with PM.
- To accurately and promptly report any operational concerns regarding technical and/or mechanical failure and/or damage.
- To ensure the safe operation of the Maintenance Facility within the context of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and company determined safe operating procedures.
- Obtain and maintain an intimate knowledge of related operational features and ancillary devices related to the operation and function of the Maintenance Facility.
- Ensure accurate and timely communication between all levels of employees and others in regard to technical and operational functions.
What will your roster look like?
Your roster will be an irregular shift work roster starting at either 6am or 6pm and working 72 hours per fortnight (Monday to Sunday). Any hours in excess of 72 in a fortnight would be considered overtime. You will only be allocated 50% weekend shifts in a 14-day period and will not be required to work more than three (3) consecutive 12-hour night shifts (a minimum of two (2) consecutive days off must follow such a stretch) You may also scratch (elect to be unavailable) up to 9 shifts per 14-day period (maximum 5 in 1 week – Monday to Sunday) You will also accrue 5 weeks of annual leave per year at 180 hours annually.
Qualifications:
- Australian or recognized mechanical trade qualification.
- Post apprenticeship experience specializing in fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance servicing on heavy plant e.g. earth moving equipment, heavy duty Forklift trucks, container handling equipment, mining equipment, marine equipment, generating sets, electric forklifts etc.
- Heavy industrial background would be highly advantageous.
- Forklift license. (Desirable)
- Elevated work platform license. (Desirable)
Skills
- Strong knowledge and experience working with hydraulics/electronic and/or diesel engines and transmissions.
- Experience working on a rotating, shift work roster.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of using Microsoft Windows applications/DOS based programs.
- Sound communication skills (written and verbal).
Experience
- Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience specialising in fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance servicing on heavy plant or mining environment.
- Previous experience working with safety management systems including, SWMS,SOPs and Permits.
