Description

At Unita, we build spaces where people love to work, shop, stay and connect – from high-end retail and hospitality, to health and commercial fitouts across Australia. But great spaces don’t build themselves. Great teams do.

People have always been at the heart of what we do. From humble beginnings to national growth, our ambition has never outweighed our values. We’re fuelled by a shared passion to build better, together.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Financial Accountant to join our team in Brisbane. This role sits at the core of our finance function – owning the detail, delivering reliable reporting, and making sure our numbers stack up.

You’ll work closely with our Financial Controller and CFO, supporting month-end, compliance, and project accounting in a fast-paced, growing construction business.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Delivering month-end close – clean, reconciled and on time
  • Managing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving variances
  • Preparing and lodging compliance (BAS, GST, FBT, payroll tax, TPAR)
  • Supporting audit requirements with accurate, audit-ready workpapers
  • Reconciling project systems to accounting systems and investigating discrepancies
  • Maintaining daily bank recs and supporting cash flow forecasting
  • Keeping financial data accurate across systems, including supplier records
  • Identifying issues early and improving processes as the business grows

What great looks like

  • The numbers are accurate, reliable and ready when needed
  • Month-end runs smoothly with no surprises
  • Compliance is handled on time, every time
  • Systems align and variances are understood and resolved
  • Finance is seen as responsive, proactive and across the detail

Who thrives in this role

You’re someone who works in a structured, disciplined way and takes ownership of your work. You stay ahead of deadlines, pick up inconsistencies early, and take pride in getting the detail right.

You’re reliable, proactive and understand the impact your work has on the broader business.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in a Financial or Group Accountant role, or similar
  • Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (or working towards)
  • Exposure to month-end and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Understanding of Australian tax and compliance requirements
  • Experience with an ERP system (NetSuite or similar)
  • Experience in a project-based or construction environment is a bonus

We value different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, and we’re committed to creating a workplace where people feel safe, respected and able to do their best work.
