Trust for Nature is a not-for-profit conservation organisation that works to protect native plants and wildlife in cooperation with private landholders. Established in 1972 under the Victorian Conservation Trust Act 1972 (Vic), Trust for Nature has a strong history of working across government, not-for-profit and private sectors to secure permanent protection of important conservation land across Victoria.  

Part-time | North West | Two year contract 

About the role 

We’re searching for a Conservation Program Officer to join our passionate team.  

Reporting to the Area Manager this role supports the delivery of Trust for Nature’s key conservation programs including the Covenanting Program, Stewardship Program, Offsets Program, Revolving Fund Program, and BushBank Program through the North West area of Victoria. The role will act as a point of contact between Trust for Nature and conservation covenantors and potential landholders in the catchment. 

The role is based in Castlemaine office with regular travel throughout North West Victoria.  The key focus of the role will be landholder engagement, ecological assessment of areas protected by conservation covenants, discussions with landholders about conservation management techniques and the development of conservation management plans.

What’s on offer 

This is a part time (0.80FTE) fixed term contract for two years.   

The role offers an annual salary range of $71,117 - $76,083 plus 12% super, the pro rata amount based on 0.80FTE is $56,893 – $60,866. The salary offered will be aligned with the candidates’ experience.   

The role operates in a hybrid model, with a blend of work from home, face to face days and field work. Regular travel throughout the North West region is a core part of the role and therefor a driver’s licence is required. 

About you 

We are searching for someone who is passionate about conservation who is looking to grow their career in the Environmental sector. The successful candidate will bring; 

A degree in natural resource management, ecology, or other environmental science. At least 2 years of field-work experience. Understanding of land management practices, and understanding of Ecological Vegetation Communities, flora and fauna, common threats, and recommended management actions. Sound written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing. Excellent time management skills and flexibility to reprioritise workload. Experience liaising with a range of stakeholders including land managers.  

This role offers a strong foundation for developing your conservation career while contributing to meaningful, long-term protection of biodiversity on private land across Victoria.
