Thorne Harbour Health is seeking a passionate and committed Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Peer Support Worker to join our Therapeutic Services team in the Adelaide CBD. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference within the LGBTQIA+ community while supporting people navigating substance use and recovery.

About the Role

In this part-time position, you will play a key role in supporting individuals and families through therapeutic and peer-informed practices. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting assessments of client needs, goals, and safety across various life areas
  • Developing and coordinating case plans with actionable steps and timelines
  • Working collaboratively with other service providers for integrated care and referrals
  • Facilitating group workshops, peer groups, and family support sessions
  • Creating transition plans to support long-term self-management for clients

About You

You will have a relevant tertiary qualification in AOD, mental health, social work, counselling, youth work, community development or similar. In addition, you’ll demonstrate:

  • Solid understanding of the AOD service system, harm reduction, and behaviour change strategies
  • Experience in therapeutic support for individuals, families, and/or groups from diverse backgrounds
  • A recovery-oriented mindset within a harm minimisation framework
  • Insight into the stigma related to both LGBTQIA+ identity and substance use
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Lived experience with alcohol and other drug use
