The opportunity:
Strong, friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic Garden Centre Assistant wanted to work in the outdoor plant area at our Nunhead Store. Good working knowledge of outdoor plants is useful but not essential.
Must be well presented and able to quickly build a good rapport with customers.
Outdoor working is required in all weather conditions. You will need to be physically fit and able to handle heavy stock daily.
Training and support will be given in order to develop or acquire the knowledge to assist our extensive and varied customer base as well as developing new clients.
Working hours will include weekends and Bank Holidays.
We will consider full-time or part-time applicants.
You will be based at our Nunhead Store and may be called upon to work in our other South London locations.
The initial contract will run until mid-June 2026 with the potential to extend for the right candidates.
Responsibilities:
– Deliver exceptional customer service with the aim of maximising sales. All customers to be greeted and asked if they require assistance. Customers to be thanked as they leave.
– Assist customers with queries to the best of your abilities, seeking help from colleagues where required
– Receive and process weekly deliveries of plants, pots, compost and garden accessories
– Ensure that deliveries are processed as quickly as possible in an efficient manner
– Ensuring that all deliveries are received accurately and finalised within Vector
– Helping keep Garden Centre stock records by assisting with regular stock takes
– Vehicle loading and unloading (hand ball)
– Ensuring service standards are maintained and work processes are followed
– Working in accordance with Company Health and Safety policies and procedures
– Always ensure that the inside and outside of the Garden Shop is kept clean and well presented
– Ensure that external areas are always maintained to a high standard
- Kept swept and tidy
- Stock constantly replenished
- Stock watered
- Displays refreshed and creatively presented on and ongoing basis
- Disposing of all rubbish and unused items to keep a clean and clear sales floor
- Under display tables kept clean, clear and safe
- Kitchen and toilet cleaning schedule is adhered to
– Ensure that all plants are cared for and kept in prime condition for sale
- Including daily watering during summer months
- Responsibility for reducing stock prices to clear aging stock as necessary
– Working to ensure that stock wastage is kept to a minimal level
– Undertaking adhoc projects as required by Senior Members of the Team

– Plant knowledge is a bonus but not a prerequisite
