The Nunhead Gardener is a fast-growing, family-run group of independent garden shops in South London. We’re known for our beautiful plant displays, expert horticultural knowledge, and friendly, community-focused service.
Spring is our busiest and most exciting season – and we’re looking for extra hands to help us meet increased demand.
The Opportunity
We are hiring 2-3 Seasonal Garden Centre Assistants to support our outdoor plant and gardening team during our peak spring period.
This is a physically active, outdoor role, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, being part of a busy team, and helping customers.
You’ll mainly be based in Nunhead, with occasional support needed at our Camberwell and Elephant stores.
Contract runs from early March to mid-June, with potential to extend for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing warm, friendly and helpful customer service
• Receiving, unloading and processing deliveries (plants, compost, pots etc.)
• Assisting customers with plants, compost, pots and gardening queries
• Replenishing stock and maintaining attractive outdoor displays
• Plant care including watering and general upkeep
• Supporting occasional plant installation projects
• Working safely and efficiently as part of a team

• Physically fit and comfortable with heavy lifting and outdoor work
• Positive, upbeat and customer-focused
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work at a fast pace
• Team player with flexibility to take on varied tasks
• Plant knowledge is a bonus, but not essential – training provided
Working Pattern
• Weekend and Bank Holiday availability required
• Full-time or part-time options available
