About The Healing Foundation

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation is a national organisation that elevates the voices and lived experience of Stolen Generations survivors, their families, and their communities.

We work closely with survivors and communities to create environments for survivors to tell their stories and drive their healing. We are committed to the recognition of the Bringing them home report and the realisation of the rights outlined in the report for Stolen Generations and descendants.

We are governed by a Board of First Nations Directors, a Stolen Generations Reference Group, a Youth Reference Group and are led by a First Nations Executive. With our work informed by the Stolen Generations sector – organisations that provide direct support to Stolen Generations survivors in communities across the country.

About the Role:

The Advisor Research & Policy will lead and contribute to policy, research, and project initiatives that make a tangible difference. You will have the opportunity to engage with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), government, and other key stakeholders to deliver impactful outcomes.

We are recruiting for two roles with focus areas in Health and Aged Care, Education, Redress, Records or Workforce. Experience in one area is sufficient. The roles can be based in either Canberra or Brisbane.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake policy and research projects, including environmental scans, policy briefs, and scoping/option papers.
  • Support project delivery through planning, coordination, milestone tracking, and identifying risks or opportunities.
  • Develop approval briefs, planning documents, and manage small to medium procurement processes and contract delivery.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to support shared priorities and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear, tailored written communications, from briefs to formal correspondence, for a range of audiences.
  • Engage constructively with stakeholders to build understanding, alignment, and positive outcomes.
  • Embed Cultural Safety and participatory approach into research and project activities.

Experience, skills and attributes:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in policy, research, project delivery or advisory roles within consulting, community services, health, education, justice or social policy contexts.
  • Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience or strong interest in either Health and Aged Care, Education, Redress, Records or Workforce.
  • Understanding and practical application of participatory design and Cultural Safety / healing-informed frameworks
  • Strong written communication skills, able to translate complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Project management capability, including tracking milestones, deliverables and risks.
  • A team-focused approach, supporting collaborative and culturally safe ways of working.
