Description

Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to assist a NDIS participant in Fairfield, Victoria. This role is crucial in providing personal care, medication supervision, and social support to an individual with a mild intellectual disability and borderline personality. The ideal candidate will be able to follow a detailed behaviour support plan and employ de-escalation strategies to ensure a positive and safe environment for the participant.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care and assistance with daily living activities, including changing continence aides with the support of another staff member.
  • Supervise medication administration, with training provided if necessary.
  • Implement and adhere to the participant’s behaviour support plan, employing de-escalation strategies as required.
  • Facilitate social interactions and community outings, ensuring all activities are planned in advance.
  • Maintain a separate space for personal downtime when the participant requires time to calm down.
  • Communicate effectively with the participant, demonstrating patience and understanding.
  • Document and report any changes in the participant’s behaviour or needs to the management team.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a support worker or in a similar role, particularly with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks; training can be provided.
  • Experience or training in mental health or psychosocial support is advantageous but not essential.
  • Willingness to undergo training for medication supervision if not already qualified.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to care, with a focus on the participant’s dignity and respect.
