About the team/About the role:  

The Cancer Information team produces printed, online, podcast and video resources for people with cancer, their families, carers and friends, including the national Understanding Cancer series of booklets and fact sheets, an Easy Read multimodal series, and The Thing About Cancer podcasts.   

As part of the Commonwealth-funded Australian Cancer Nursing and Navigation Program (ACNNP), Cancer Council will deliver a national cancer navigation service, expanding our existing cancer information and support service (13 11 20), to include new digital navigation and support offerings. During the implementation phase of the program, Cancer Council will expand the Cancer Information team to enable the provision of new and existing information resources, including tailored resources developed with priority populations and new multimodal content. 

This position will work on the development of new podcast and video content to expand the cancer information formats available on the new national cancer navigation service, and may also support the development of audiovisual content for other programs. The role combines hands-on production skills with strong research and writing skills and project and stakeholder management.    

Full time contract role until June 2027.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Coordinate the production of new cancer information podcasts and videos, from concept to release   

  • Work with team members and external stakeholders to develop scoping documents, content plans and briefs for agreed podcast and video projects   

  • Act as the key contact for external production agencies, facilities, talent and guests, provide clear briefs, and coordinate their involvement  

  • Film video and record audio to a professional standard for in-house productions  

  • Edit podcast and video content to a professional standard, including rigorous version control and rendering, exporting and optimising assets for final output    

  • Track project schedules, ensuring any risks are flagged early, and milestones are met  

  • Liaise with National Navigation website team to coordinate release of new podcast episodes and videos on multiple platforms and ensure appropriate embedding of assets   

  • Contribute to marketing messaging and social media assets to help promote the new podcasts and videos and the National Navigation service.  

 

About you:

Essential:  

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, or related discipline  

  • Extensive experience producing and editing informational podcasts and videos for websites and other digital platforms Demonstrated experience in researching complex, evidence-based medical information and translating into audience-appropriate, engaging, plain English audiovisual content  

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, After Affects, Photoshop and Illustrator  

  • Experience editing and mastering podcasts using tools such as Hindenburg Pro and Descript  

  • Strong understanding of hosting platforms and apps, such as Omny, Vimeo, YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and related performance analytics  

 

Desirable:  

  • Experience developing simple animations  

  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit or community-based organisation or health industry
