The Wadeye Community is located in the Western Daly River Region – an area rich in cultures, wildlife, and ecosystems. Wadeye is the Territory’s 6th most populous town and one of Australia’s
largest remote indigenous communities. Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC) is a Not-for-Profit, registered charitable organisation, owned by members of the Wangka, Tjanpa and Lirga peoples. TDC has been established by the 20 clans of the Thamarrurr Region to represent them in relation to business, socio-economic development and employment and training.
About the Role
The Diagnostic & Repair Mechanic is responsible for carrying out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a mixed fleet of TDC vehicles and equipment and to private customers within the Wadeye Community. The role supports the safe and reliable operation of Toyota light
vehicles, 4WDs, and equipment used for construction and essential services.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fault finding, diagnostics, servicing, and repairs on Toyota fleet vehicles, including 4WDs and light commercial vehicles.
- Maintain and repair construction and essential services equipment, including plant, small engines, pumps, generators, and related machinery as required.
- Conduct scheduled maintenance, safety inspections, and breakdown repairs to minimise
downtime.
- Identify parts and materials required for repairs and report defects promptly for ordering and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate service records, job notes, and maintenance documentation.
- Operate and maintain workshop tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support field repairs and attend breakdowns in remote locations when required.
Selection Criteria / Qualifications
Trade qualification in Automotive Mechanical Technology, Diesel Mechanics, or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in a mechanical workshop, including vehicle servicing, maintenance,
and repairs.
Demonstrated experience in diagnostic and repair work on Toyota vehicles
Ability to work independently and manage workloads with minimal supervision in a remote
environment.
Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to undertake repairs efficiently.
Experience maintaining fleet vehicles and equipment used in construction or essential services
Demonstrated cultural awareness and the ability to build respectful working relationships
within an Indigenous community.
Other Requirements
- Hold a current or ability to obtain – National Police Check required
- Hold a current – Northern Territory C Class Driver Licence; HR or other relevant licences are desirable
- Ability to obtain NLC Work and Residential Permits
- Verifiable Australian Work Rights (No Visa Sponsorship)

- Salary range AUD 115,000-120,000p.a. + superannuation (Salary negotiable depending on qualifications and experience)
