About Syenta

Syenta is pioneering a new era in semiconductor manufacturing with our groundbreaking Localised Electrochemical Manufacturing (LEM) technology. Our platform enables advanced packaging by combining patterning and metallisation into a single tool. We achieve high-speed, high-resolution metallisation at lower costs and energy use, while minimizing emissions and waste.

Founded in Australia, we are building a world-class team of engineers and scientists tackling some of the toughest challenges in semiconductor manufacturing. Our collaborative, people-first culture empowers individuals to take ownership, innovate, and deliver breakthrough results.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain the software systems that underpin Syenta’s manufacturing operations. This includes backend services, APIs, cloud infrastructure, internal tools, and user-facing applications.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, full-stack engineer with strong Python skills, solid front-end experience, and familiarity with cloud platforms. You actively leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding and ensure high-quality software delivery. You thrive in a startup environment, take initiative, communicate clearly, and bring a broad technical skillset. Experience in manufacturing, semiconductor, or industrial IoT software is a strong plus.

You will work closely with the Software Group Lead, mechatronics, and mechanical engineering teams to deliver integrated systems, while helping to shape the software architecture and engineering practices across Syenta.

Responsibilities

Software Development & Full-Stack Delivery

  • Develop modern front-end applications (React, Vue, Next.js, or equivalent)

  • Architect and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • Build internal tools, dashboards, and data pipelines supporting engineering and manufacturing teams

  • Integrate software with hardware systems where required

AI-Augmented Development & Engineering Excellence

  • Actively leverage AI-assisted coding tools to maximise development velocity and code quality

  • Write automated tests, maintain CI/CD pipelines, and uphold code quality standards

  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers

  • Contribute to system architecture decisions and technical direction

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Act as a trusted technical partner across teams, supporting integration with mechanical, mechatronics, and controls engineers

  • Teach, coach, and guide others on best practices, coding standards, and AI-assisted development

  • Drive initiatives to establish software engineering standards and workflows

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years’ professional software engineering experience, ideally in fast-paced startups, manufacturing tech, or industrial IoT

  • Strong proficiency in Python

  • Solid front-end skills with modern frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js)

  • Experience with cloud platforms, deployment, and infrastructure-as-code (AWS, GCP, Azure; Terraform or Pulumi)

  • Daily and proficient use of AI coding assistants

  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB), message queues, and RESTful/GraphQL APIs

  • Familiarity with software architecture patterns, CI/CD, testing, and DevOps practices

  • Full-stack capability and ability to deliver production-ready software end-to-end

  • Self-starter with initiative and strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor or advanced manufacturing software (MES, SCADA, data platforms)

  • Experience with observability/monitoring tools (Datadog, Grafana)

  • Previous hands-on experience shaping software engineering culture and practices in a small or scaling team
