The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

About the Role:

The Senior Caseworker role in the Out of Home Care team will hold a small caseload as well as supervising the caseworker, working intensively with families who have been referred to the service. The role will build positive working relationships with the families to have some tough conversations around what needs to be addressed as well as a clear path supporting these families to exit the service with these issues resolved. The Senior Caseworker role will track progress with each individual family that they oversee and assist their caseworker with initial home visits and complex situations. This role will work alongside the other Senior Caseworkers in the Regional Support Hub to increase or decrease the level of support that is needed to individual families.  

Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
  • Basic knowledge of developmental needs of children and young people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal People, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with communities, families, children and young people.
  • Strong written skills, including report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own time and work resources.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies and present and report information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills, in relation to case management.
