We’re seeking a driven and capable UAV Coordinator to lead and strengthen our volunteer drone operations across Queensland—supporting Surf Life Saving Clubs and Emergency Response teams to protect lives along our coastline and beyond.
Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Response Capability, you’ll oversee and enhance UAV (drone) capability across SLSQ volunteer services. You’ll ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and seamless integration of UAV missions into lifesaving and emergency response activities state-wide. From maintaining aircraft readiness to guiding Drone Advisors and Club Drone Captains, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening SLSQ’s position as the peak body for surf lifesaving service standards.
This is a temporary, full-time position for an initial three-month contract, working 38 hours per week. The role supports current operational priorities and may require travel to Surf Life Saving Clubs and other locations across Queensland as needed. There is potential for extension into the next financial year, subject to continued funding approval.

What You’ll Do:
- Plan, implement, and maintain UAV capability across volunteer services, including Surf Life Saving Clubs and Emergency Response functions.
- Coordinate internal and external resources, training, and volunteer support to ensure effective UAV operations.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, obtain necessary permits, and stay up-to-date with UAV laws and SLSQ ReOC requirements.
- Manage UAV assets, systems, maintenance, calibration, and inventory to support operational readiness.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and risk management support to volunteer UAV personnel, including Drone Advisors and Club Drone Captains.
- Monitor performance, maintain documentation, report insights, and contribute to quality assurance and special projects enhancing lifesaving and emergency response capabilities.
About You:
Essential
- Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
- Current Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
- Remote Pilot Licence (RePL).
- Cert IV in Training & Assessment (or SLSQ Trainer/Assessor qualification).
- Lifesaving and/or SLSQ UAV operational experience.
