Summary:
Supporting Independent Living Co-Operative (SILC), a not-for-profit provider, is seeking experienced and passionate Disability Support Worker to join our dedicated team at Accommodation Support Haven Co-operative, located on the Northern Beaches.
We’re looking for a skilled support worker to provide person-centered care for a 36-year-old man with autism spectrum disorder. Our resident enjoys reading, television shows, gaming and music. He also has a cat named Boots who he adores. He thrives with consistent routines, clear communication, and staff who understand his needs and can confidently implement behavior support strategies.
About the Role:
This position requires experience working with someone who can display challenging behaviors. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team following a comprehensive Behavior Support Plan with clear proactive and reactive strategies.
The role combines overnight care with daytime capacity building, community access support, and assistance with daily living skills in the sole-occupancy SIL home.
What We’re Looking For:

Minimum 2+ years’ experience supporting people with autism and complex behaviors
- Proven ability to remain calm and use de-escalation techniques
- Confident working independently while following detailed support plans
- Strong communication skills and ability to adapt your interaction style to the individual’s needs
- Patient, non-judgmental approach with genuine commitment to improving quality of life
- Current driver’s license (NSW)
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement proactive strategies to prevent behavioral escalation
- Follow reactive protocols when behaviors of concern occur
- Support daily living skills and build independence
- Assist in meal preparation and support domestic routines
- Facilitate community access and social participation
- Maintain detailed records and communicate with the support team and family
- Provide overnight sleepover support
- Follow medication administration protocols including PRN management

Shifts Available:
The house operates 7 days a week. The current shift availability is providing evening and overnight sleepover support; weekend shifts are also available for the right candidate.
Essential Requirements:
- Current NDIS Workers Screening Check
- First Aid and CPR certification
- NSW driver’s licence and insured vehicle for transport
- Build strong, positive relationships with participant and family
- Sound understanding and experience in implementing Behaviour Support strategies
- Availability for overnight shifts
