Summary:
Supporting Independent Living Co-Operative (SILC), a not-for-profit provider, is seeking experienced and passionate Disability Support Workers to join our dedicated team at Blue Sky House Cooperative in Denistone.
We’re looking for skilled support workers to provide dedicated 1:1 person-centred support for the two residents at Blue Sky – two young men in their early twenties, both living with non-verbal Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Both young men are happy, affectionate, and full of life. They love being outdoors, getting out into the community, and genuinely enjoy connecting with the people who support them. They thrive with structured routines, clear communication, and staff who bring energy and warmth to their role – people who are invested in building a real relationship with them, not just completing tasks.
About the Role:
Both residents have complex support needs, and the role requires confidence working within detailed individual support plans and behaviour support frameworks. While behaviours of concern do occur, the focus of support at Blue Sky is firmly on proactive engagement – building meaningful routines, facilitating community participation, and supporting each resident to develop skills and independence in ways that matter to them.
Staff who thrive here are those who can match the energy of two active young men, bring consistency and calm to the home environment, and find genuine joy in the small moments that make up a good day.
What We’re Looking For:
-
Minimum 2+ years’ experience supporting people with autism and/or complex support needs
- Confidence working within behaviour support plans and implementing proactive strategies
- Ability to remain calm and regulated during challenging moments, using de-escalation approaches effectively
- Strong commitment to active support principles — keeping residents genuinely engaged throughout each shift rather than just assisted through routines
- Warmth, patience, and a real interest in building authentic relationships with the people you support
- Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt your style to non-verbal residents
- Confidence working independently on a 1:1 basis as well as collaboratively within the broader house team
- Current driver’s license (NSW)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to one resident per shift across daily living, routines, and community participation
- Implement proactive behaviour support strategies to promote wellbeing and prevent escalation
- Facilitate community access and meaningful participation in day programs and activities
- Support skill development and independence in line with each resident’s NDIS goals
- Assist with meal preparation, domestic routines, and personal care
- Provide active supervision in accordance with each resident’s individual support plans
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the team, families, and allied health professionals
- Provide overnight support and respond appropriately if residents are awake overnight
What We Offer:
- Competitive rates – wage range $52.50/hr to $104.50/hr depending on type of shift
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training in each resident’s individual support plans
- Regular team meetings and supervision
- Supportive, family-led cooperative model with strong operator involvement
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced practitioners and allied health professionals
- Professional development opportunities
- Meaningful work in a close-knit, values-driven team
Shifts Available:
Blue Sky House operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Day, evening, and overnight shifts are available. We are particularly seeking candidates with flexibility across shift types.
Essential Requirements:
- Current NDIS Workers Screening Check (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- NSW driver’s licence and access to a reliably insured vehicle for participant transport
- Physical capacity to respond safely during behavioural incidents
- Availability across a range of shift types including evenings and overnights
To Apply:
Please submit a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and what draws you to this role, along with your current resume.
**Applications without a cover letter will not be accepted. AI cover letters are discouraged; we want to hear from you!**
Short-listed candidates will be provided with detailed information about each resident’s support needs during the interview process. Comprehensive training will be provided to successful applicants.
Due to the specialised nature of this role, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.
