About Summer Foundation

Summer Foundation works to improve housing and living outcomes for Australians with disability who require access to 24/7 support.

More than 40,000 people with disability with high support needs still face limited housing and support options, often resulting in poor outcomes and lack of choice. We work to change this by identifying, developing and scaling practical, evidence-based solutions.

Working alongside partners, we combine research, lived experience and collaboration to design solutions that improve how people live and are supported.

Since 2006, we’ve helped more than 7,500 young people with disability avoid living in residential aged care, showing what’s possible when better solutions are delivered.

Our culture is inclusive, collaborative and purpose-driven, with a strong focus on innovation, evidence, and better outcomes for people with disability.

About the Innovation Council

The Innovation Council exists to provide strategic advice, and advise resourcing decisions relating to the organisation’s innovation agenda. The Innovation Council serves as the primary advising body for innovation and is responsible for prioritising initiatives, evaluating strategies, and providing direction which aligns with Summer Foundation’s key objectives.

The establishment of the Innovation Council reflects Summer Foundation’s commitment to innovation as a pathway to improving outcomes for people with disability, ensuring that lived experience remains central to our work. By contributing to the Innovation Council, members will play a vital role in shaping initiatives that create meaningful change for Australians with disability.

About you

You bring lived experience of disability navigating housing and support systems, including experience requiring access to 24/7 support, and you’re motivated to use that perspective to help drive meaningful change.

You’re thoughtful, curious, and confident contributing to discussions. You enjoy exploring ideas, asking questions, and working collaboratively with others.

You have the ability to leverage lived experience to inform insights, think critically about challenges and opportunities, and contribute to conversations that improve housing and support outcomes for people with disability.

About the role

This is a flexible advisory role involving approximately six meetings per year (online or in person), with preparation time supported.

Application process

To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must have lived experience of disability, including experience requiring access to 24/7 support (which may include informal or on call support arrangements)

We aim to make our application process as simple and accessible as possible. You may notice some standard steps, such as uploading a CV. These are system requirements and not necessary for this role, so you’re welcome to upload a blank document or your CV when prompted. Instead, we ask that you complete the application questions and provide your contact details so we can get in touch if you are shortlisted.
