Description

Strive Community Care provides therapeutic home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect. We utilise a strong Therapeutic Framework and unique CREATE Model of Care with a focus on establishing holistic safety. Children and young people are provided with a sense of family, support to heal, opportunity to positively connect with others, and rebuild their lives.

We are now looking for a Senior Therapeutic Care Worker in the Ipswich Region to play a key role in supporting children and young persons in their healing journey through providing care in therapeutic homes. This is a Part-Time Role working 60 hours per fortnight, with additional hours available.

These positions are required to work across 24/7 rotating rostered shifts, including sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays.

Duties of the successful applicant include:

  • Assisting the Therapeutic Care Manager with managerial administration tasks as required (up to 10 hours per week with the remainder spent on the floor)
  • Build and promote a positive and caring environment that supports the children/young people residing in our homes.
  • Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement
  • Maintain safety through effectively implementing Behaviour Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans.
  • Work with young people in a manner informed by attachment and trauma-informed care in line with our unique CREATE Model of Care.
  • Ensure all essential needs are met for the young person within the home such as providing a balanced diet, prompts with hygiene, support for school engagement, and creating positive life experiences.
  • Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma, incorporating this understanding into everyday interactions, as well as responding to pain-based behaviour in a sensitive and non-punitive way.
  • Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
  • Assist and support children/young people to develop links and build their capacity to be part of their community.

A successful applicant/s will require the following Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed, or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) is essential.
  • Current HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent is essential.
  • Valid unrestricted Australian drivers licence
  • Valid WWCC (Paid Blue Card)
  • Valid NDIS (Yellow Card) or wiling to apply
  • Valid LCS2 (within the last 12 months)
  • Experience in working with young people with complex trauma is ideal.
  • Experience in developing case plans/safety plans/behaviour support plans, case noting and report writing is desirable.
  • Cultural knowledge and/or lived experience that supports an inclusive and culturally responsive approach to working with young people
