About the role

As our Senior Payroll Officer you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of payroll across multiple entities within the Cision house of brands, including two Australian brands and one New Zealand brand.

This part-time role combines hands-on payroll processing with ownership of compliance, payroll tax, statutory obligations, and employee benefits (including novated leasing). You will act as the subject matter expert for payroll across AU & NZ, ensuring best practice, accuracy, and regulatory compliance while partnering with Finance and People teams.

What you’ll be doing

Payroll Ownership & Processing

Take full ownership of end-to-end payroll for:

  • Two Australian entities (multi-state)
  • One New Zealand entity
  • Oversee and execute payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness
  • Manage complex payroll scenarios (terminations, back pays, adjustments, leave calculations)
  • Ensure leave accruals (annual leave, long service leave) are accurately calculated, reviewed and aligned with payroll reports.
  • Reconcile payroll reports to general ledger and investigate variances,
  • Ensure payroll journal entries are accurately prepared, reviewed, and correctly posted in Xero.

Compliance, Payroll Tax & Statutory Obligations 

  • Act as the subject matter expert on payroll compliance across AU & NZ
  • Ensure payroll is compliant with:Australia: PAYG, Superannuation, STP, payroll taxNew Zealand: PAYE, KiwiSaver, ESCT, ACC
  • Prepare payroll tax calculations and support lodgements across multiple Australian states
  • Support year-end payroll processes, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Ensure correct payroll treatment of benefits, including novated leases
  • Support year-end payroll processes, reconciliations, and reporting 

Employee Benefits & Novated Leasing

  • Oversee administration of employee benefits, including novated lease arrangements
  • Ensure correct payroll treatment, deductions, and reporting
  • Act as escalation point for complex employee queries related to benefits

Reconciliation, Reporting & Controls

  • Own key payroll reconciliations, including:Payroll to General LedgerSuperannuation / KiwiSaverPayroll tax and statutory accounts
  • Prepare payroll reporting, including benchmarking and ad hoc analysis as required
  • Establish and maintain strong payroll controls, processes, and audit trails
  • Support internal and external audits

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key point of contact for payroll across Finance, People & Culture, and external providers
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on payroll, tax, and compliance matters
  • Partner with HR on employee lifecycle changes and benefits

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive payroll process improvements and standardisation across entities
  • Identify automation opportunities and reduce manual processes
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and integrations
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity and governance
  • Other duties as determined by Streem from time to time.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years’ end-to-end payroll experience in Australia
  • Strong experience managing payroll tax across multiple states
  • Experience with novated lease administration
  • Solid understanding of AU payroll legislation and compliance
  • Proven ability to manage payroll autonomously
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Employment Hero, etc.)

Beyond this, a few desirable qualities include: 

  • Experience with New Zealand payroll
  • Knowledge of NZ statutory obligations (PAYE, KiwiSaver, ESCT, ACC)
  • Experience in a multi-entity, multi-brand, or global environment
  • Experience improving payroll processes or leading system enhancements
