Summary/Objective
The Assistant Critical Operations Manager is a key operational leader supporting day-to-day site performance and the delivery of safe, reliable and resilient critical operations. Reporting to the Senior Critical Operations Manager, this role provides operational oversight, coordination and team support across all mechanical, electrical, controls, facilities and security functions onsite.
This position directly supports STACK’s commitment to 100% uptime and concierge-level customer service, ensuring all operational activities, contractor works, incident responses and maintenance activities are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality and communication.
Operations
- Lead and maintain a strong, standardised safety‑first culture across all operational and contractor activities.
- Support the Senior Critical Operations Manager in ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 operation of all mission‑critical systems.
- Manage day‑to‑day incident and problem management, including assessment, escalation and stakeholder communication.
- Draft and support high‑quality Post‑Incident Reviews (PIRs), including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain and audit incident/problem action registers to ensure timely and high‑quality action closure.
- Ensure operational readiness for new systems entering BAU, including documentation, CMMS updates and training.
- Coordinate and govern safe execution of planned maintenance, minor works and medium‑scale projects.
- Oversee contractor and vendor performance to ensure compliance with safety, quality and operational standards.
- Develop and audit operating procedures, processes and policies in line with STACK operational standards.
- Provide operational oversight for assigned projects, ensuring safe execution and alignment with critical operations.
- Work with engineering, facilities and controls teams to identify root causes of system issues and implement solutions.
- Support customer communications, operational briefings and maintain confidence during incidents or planned works.
- Produce timely reporting for incidents, maintenance, planned works, risks and performance trends.
- Conduct site safety inspections and ensure WHS compliance, including reporting hazards and near‑misses.
- Review and quality‑check operational documentation (MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, incident reports).
Competencies
- 3–5 years’ experience in data centres or other mission‑critical 24/7 environments, with exposure to live‑site risk controls.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating or supervising contractors in live plant environments, including SWMS, permits to work, and isolations/LOTO.
- Proven capability supporting incident and problem management, including triage, escalation, stakeholder communication and PIR/RCA input.
- Working knowledge of core electrical and mechanical critical systems (UPS, STS/ATS, chillers, switchboards, CRAH/CRAC, fire systems) to assess operational risk and work quality.
- Competency with CMMS and monitoring platforms (BMS/EPMS/DCIM), along with strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and customer updates.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Technical certification or training in Electrical, Electronic, Communication, IT, or Mechanical trades.
Eligibility Requirements
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, nights, public holidays, and on‑call duty.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment with shifting priorities.
Security Clearance
- Must be able to attain and maintain NV1 security clearance.
