Role Overview
We are looking for a Head of Regulatory & Compliance to join our Group Legal & Compliance team. This is a pivotal, newly created role designed to manage our growing regulatory landscape as we expand our energy retail licensing.
Reporting to the Group General Counsel, you will provide specialist knowledge and expertise to ensure our processes across customer care, billing and pricing are beyond reproach.
This is a hands on role that balances regulatory interpretation with the practical implementation of compliance systems across the business, having a direct impact on SUPA’s overall risk profile and strategic priorities.
What does a day in the life look like?
-
Managing the Compliance Calendar: Taking ownership of time based obligations across ESC, AER, ACMA, and state bodies.
-
Building Infrastructure: Designing, implementing and maintaining compliance systems and documentation across all parts of the business.
-
Regulatory Reporting: Preparing and lodging high quality performance reports and annual compliance statements.
-
Breach Management: Investigating potential issues, classifying breaches and drafting notifications for the General Counsel.
-
Internal Coordination: Partnering with Operations, Finance and Customer Service to embed compliance practices into daily work.
-
Policy Development: Drafting and updating compliance policies and work instructions to reflect current regulatory requirements.
What you need to be successful in this role?
We recognise that top tier compliance professionals can come from a range of different backgrounds and industries. Previous experience working with an energy retailer would be highly transferable into this position.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
-
Extensive Experience: A career background in energy compliance, regulatory affairs or risk management.
-
Sector Expertise: Essential knowledge of Australian energy sector regulation (NECF, ESC frameworks) and AER retail authorisation.
-
Technical Rigour: Intermediate Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, conditional formatting) and the ability to interpret and apply complex legislative instruments.
-
Outcome Focus: A proven track record of managing multi jurisdictional obligations and achieving 100% on time lodgement.
-
Relationship Skills: The ability to explain complex requirements to non specialists and work collaboratively across business functions.
While we have listed what is needed to be successful, we also welcome applications from people who have other transferable experience in telecommunications or other utilities.
What we offer?
At SUPA you get flexibility and benefits that genuinely support your life outside of work, including hybrid working, extra Cultural Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave and the option to purchase additional leave. We have generous parental leave arrangements, primary carer leave and flexible work options when life changes.
On top of this we spend our office days together in a modern South Melbourne space with regular social events, free gym access and novated leasing options.

We aim to keep our recruitment process clear, respectful and as straightforward as possible. The steps below outline what you can expect, noting that each stage is assessed competitively and not all candidates will progress through every step.
