Smart Environmental Ltd is seeking a motivated General Operative to join our Operational Team at our team in Hokitika. This hands-on role is essential to the day-to-day running of the site and involves working as part of a team to ensure materials are sorted, processed, and handled safely and efficiently. Smart Environmental Ltd works on behalf of local councils, businesses, and communities providing rubbish and recycling collections. Acquired by Blue Planet and with a large fleet of collection vehicles and line haul operations, our mission is to divert waste from landfill.
About the Role:
• Contract Type: Permanent Part-time
• Days of work: Saturday and Sunday
• Hours of work: 16 Hours Per Week (Cover work from time to time)
Additional Hours: Flexibility to provide cover from time to time, as required
Key responsibilities:
• Operate and drive a small tipper truck, including servicing and emptying town litter bins
• Accurately identify and differentiate material types
• Communicate effectively with internal staff and customers
• Maintain yard cleanliness and general housekeeping standards
• Operate the weighbridge and ensure accurate record-keeping
• Demonstrate strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements and follow all safe work procedures
Skills and experience:
• Holds a current NZ Class 1 Driver Licence
• Forklift licence (advantageous)
• Wheels, Tracks and Rollers (WTR) endorsement (advantageous)
• Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks
• Able to work well within a team environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Good hand–eye coordination and spatial awareness
