At SHEPHERD, we work alongside councils and government clients to deliver critical civil infrastructure and disaster recovery projects that directly impact communities. Our work ensures funding is used effectively, projects are compliant, and communities recover faster and stronger.

We’re looking for a Project Engineer who wants to take ownership of project components, work closely with stakeholders and play a key role in delivering defensible, high-quality outcomes.

What you’ll be responsible for You will:

  • Own and deliver key project components from planning through to close-out
  • Translate field and inspection data into structured, audit-ready deliverables
  • Drive coordination across PMs, councils, contractors and field teams
  • Manage and contribute to contract administration (progress claims, variations, RFIs, defects)
  • Ensure documentation, data and records are accurate, compliant and defensible
  • Track progress, manage priorities and keep deliverables moving
  • Identify risks early and take action to resolve issues before they escalate

What sets you apart

You’re a practical engineer who understands how projects actually run and enjoy supporting delivery from behind the scenes.

Ideally you will have:

  • Civil Engineering degree with 2–5 years’ experience
  • Experience across civil works delivery, construction, and/or disaster recovery environments
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence interpreting drawings, specs, schedules of rates
  • Exposure to QA, documentation or contract admin processes
  • Strong organisation and communication skills, able to coordinate across councils, PMs and field teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document/project management systems
  • A proactive mindset – you don’t wait for problems, you find and fix them
  • C Class licence and willing to travel occasionally.

Bonus if you’ve worked in DRFA, local government or audit/compliance-heavy environments.
