The Role

As a Key Account Manager at Steel Builders, you will take ownership of a portfolio of key customer accounts, focused on building long-term partnerships while identifying opportunities to grow account value and expand our footprint within existing and new customers.

In addition to managing established relationships, you’ll proactively spot opportunities for organic growth — whether through new projects, upselling additional services, or introducing Steel Builders to new contacts within customer organisations or adjacent accounts. You’ll work closely with internal teams to convert opportunities into reliable, high-quality outcomes for our customers.

This role offers a strong balance of relationship management, commercial thinking, and opportunity-led sales activity, suited to someone who enjoys growing business through trusted partnerships rather than transactional selling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and nurture a portfolio of key customer accounts, acting as the primary point of contact
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with customers through regular engagement and site visits
  • Develop account plans that drive retention, account growth, and uncover new opportunities
  • Identify and progress new business opportunities within existing accounts and across the broader customer network
  • Understand customer pipelines, upcoming projects, and business priorities to proactively support growth
  • Clearly communicate Steel Builders’ product capability, service offering, and value proposition
  • Work collaboratively with production, operations, and customer service teams to ensure seamless delivery
  • Resolve customer issues effectively and implement improvements to prevent future concerns

Skills & Experience

We’re ideally looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in Key Account Management or Account Management within a B2B environment, ideally in manufacturing, construction, steel, building products, or a related industry
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and develop accounts through strong relationships and commercial insight
  • Experience identifying and progressing new business opportunities within existing client portfolios
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging customers at multiple levels
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to anticipate customer needs
  • Experience coordinating with internal teams to deliver customer outcomes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities effectively
  • Comfortable working both on the road with customers and from the office
  • Customer-focused approach with a natural ability to build trust and credibility
  • Experience with CRM and pipeline management
  • Knowledge of residential construction or steel fabrication environments will be highly regarded
