Who we are

We’re proud to be Australia’s only domestic manufacturer of rail wagons, and the country’s number one provider of rolling stock solutions for the rail industry. But what we’re most proud of are our people and what they bring to the Rail First team every day.

What you’ll do

The primary objective of this new role is to establish clear visibility of current and future spend across the spare parts and consumables portfolio and converting this insight into effective sourcing strategies. The role focuses on analysing annual spend, structuring procurement categories, understanding maintenance-driven demand and store utilisation, and preparing high-quality sourcing and tender documentation to engage the supply market.

Some of the key responsibilities of the Procurement Specialist include:

  • Gather, cleanse and analyse current and historical annual spend data across the business.
  • Identify spend concentration, supplier dependency, pricing trends and savings opportunities.
  • Work closely with maintenance, engineering and stores teams to understand asset maintenance requirements and consumption patterns.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise inventory levels, reduce obsolete stock and improve material availability.
  • Prepare sourcing documentation including RFIs, RFQs and RFTs for engagement with the supply market.
  • Assist in supplier negotiations to achieve optimal commercial and risk outcomes.
  • Partner with various teams across the business to ensure procurement strategies support operational needs.
  • Act as a key interface between internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

What you’ll bring

To enable success in the role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in procurement, sourcing, or category management.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in spend analysis and data interpretation.
  • Experience preparing RFIs, RFQs, and RFTs.
  • Ability to engage effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial and negotiation awareness.
  • Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach.
  • An ability to be collaborative and be stakeholder focused.
  • A proactive approach with a continuous improvement mindset.

Experience in rail, transport, heavy asset or infrastructure environments as well as tertiary qualifications in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Engineering or similar would be desirable.

You’ll live and breathe our core values of Safety, Trust, Achievement and Care and thrive on being part of our team-based culture where your voice is always heard and your contribution matters.
