Our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting the sustainability, governance and operational success of the business, partnering closely with leaders across the organisation. Due to continued growth and increasing workforce complexity, we are seeking an experienced Payroll & Compliance Manager to strengthen payroll capability, governance and operational resilience across the business.

We are open to this opportunity being structured as either full time or 0.8 FTE for the right candidate.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a senior payroll role responsible for the operational leadership, compliance oversight and continuous improvement of the payroll function within a complex healthcare environment.

This is a hands-on role that combines payroll processing with broader responsibility for payroll governance, award interpretation, reporting, controls, audit readiness and systems/process optimisation.

Working closely with Operations, broader Finance and People & Culture, the role will support the ongoing maturity and sustainability of the payroll function, whilst also providing operational leadership and technical payroll expertise across the team. The role also includes leadership responsibility for one direct report within the payroll function.

The role will act as a key point of accountability for payroll governance, compliance and operational continuity across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support end-to-end payroll processing activities across the organisation
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, awards, contracts and statutory obligations
  • Provide oversight of payroll governance, controls, reconciliations and audit readiness
  • Manage complex payroll matters including doctor payroll, interpretation and remediation activities
  • Lead payroll reporting, analytics and compliance monitoring activities
  • Identify and implement payroll process and systems improvements
  • Partner with Finance and People & Culture on payroll-related initiatives and workforce matters
  • Support operational continuity, capability uplift and payroll best practice across the function

About You

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior payroll position within a complex operational environment
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards and compliance obligations
  • Experience managing complex payroll processing and interpretation matters
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving capability
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Ability to lead operational improvement and influence stakeholders across the business
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach
  • Experience within healthcare or multi-award environments will be highly regarded
