QDN has been making a difference to the lives of people with disability for over 20 years. We are a human right based, membership representative body of over 2500 people with a disability and their supporters. Our vision is that people with disability are active and valued citizens of Queensland. QDN’s work is centred around a strong state-wide network of people with disability across Queensland, to inform, connect, lead, and influence change to deliver an inclusive Queensland community.
About the role
The Project Officer reports directly to the Manager – Projects and Innovation. This position works as part of a team where interdependencies and collaboration with colleagues, QDN members and internal and external stakeholders are critical to the successful delivery of projects, services and activities.
The appointee is accountable for the delivery of work assignments and projects, recognising when matters need to be referred to management for resolution. They will work to ensure the timely achievement of deliverables, within agreed budgets and performance levels. The position may require some travel.
QDN actively works to influence change around key issues of inclusion for people with disability and their communities. To do this effectively, this role leads on delivering the qualitative and quantitative evidence required to underpin QDN’s work. This is a hands-on role actively engaging with people with disability and your work will have considerable impact. You can expect to be consulting with our members on issues to inform both our policy and project work. QDN’s projects and activities cover a diverse range of areas which includes disability reforms, employment, housing, health, community participation, leadership and disaster preparedness.
What will you bring to the role?

- Sound knowledge and awareness of disability and key issues that are important in the lives of people with disability including disability reforms, policy and legislation.
- High level analytical skills and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple short-term projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use and analyse data to develop information, resources, engagement processes, and practical insights that inform project delivery and influence policy and practice.
- Excellent writing skills: the ability to turn complex information into succinct, easy-to-understand and engaging material; including client-ready reports and deliverables.
- The ability to co-ordinate under the direction of your manager, the workflow for QDN’s project deliverables, including coordinating QDN consultants and contributors, and exercise appropriate initiative and judgement to solve problems and seek guidance where appropriate.
- Effective engagement skills across a broad range of consumer, community and government stakeholders, including facilitating co-design and consultation processes, with engagement experience in the disability, housing or human services areas that enable you to build relationships and communicate with influence.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 and other software applications.
- The ability to comply with relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and frameworks including Work Health and Safety requirements, QDN’s processes, NDIS Quality and Safeguards and Queensland Human Rights Act.
What will you do in the role?
- Undertake effective engagement including co-design and consultation with people with disability, families/carers and other key stakeholders to inform QDN’s delivery of work and activities.
- Undertake research and analysis to inform project delivery and provide informed, considered and practical advice on government policy, programs, services and implementation, with a key focus on diverse issues impacting people with disability.
- Produce high quality content and deliverables for QDN’s work, including client reports, summaries of insights, presentations, briefings and communication materials ensuring outputs are clear, accessible and timely.
- Maintain effective working relationships with government, private and not-for-profit organisations, to support project delivery, contribute to influencing state and national policy and practice and represent the position and views of QDN in a way that enhances the reputation of the organisation.
- Support the implementation of QDN’s project workplans, including coordinating and delivering short-term, fast turnaround consultancy projects, and government requested co-design and engagement activities.
- Coordinate the engagement and participation of QDN consultants including scheduling, briefing, supporting participation in engagement and co-design activities and ensuring their lived experience informs project outcomes.
- Work under the direction of the work stream lead on the day-to-day functions associated with the relevant project plans or workplans, ensuring timely delivery of outputs across multiple concurrent activities.
- Support QDN member engagement strategies to inform projects and programs and harvest key themes, such as the design, delivery and evaluation of workshops and events, both in person and virtually.
- Participate actively in QDN culture of a safe and inclusive work environment.
- Other duties as directed by your line manager.

Key Job Requirements
Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent experience in the areas of disability, human services and/or policy experience is highly desirable.
