QuantX Labs, based in the vibrant Lot Fourteen innovation precinct in Adelaide, is advancing the frontier of quantum sensing, atomic clocks and satellite payload technologies. We’re a team of engineers, physicists and scientists developing world-first deep-tech solutions with applications across Defence, Space, and critical national infrastructure.
We are seeking a Firmware Engineer who will play a pivotal role in developing, integrating, and optimising firmware for next-generation products, from quantum sensing systems to orbital atomic clocks.
This role is perfect for a curious, driven engineer who thrives in multidisciplinary teams and wants to see their work literally reach orbit.
Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 p.a + Super
What You’ll Do
You will work across the full product lifecycle — design, prototyping, integration, and verification — helping turn research into real-world solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing and developing firmware, embedded systems and FPGA code for innovative products.
• Integrating hardware, firmware, and software systems, including defence and satellite payload applications.
• Implementing digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and real-time embedded control systems.
• Developing and maintaining communication protocols and embedded Linux systems.
• Supporting the design and verification of high-speed data acquisition and frequency systems.
• Contributing to project planning, documentation, and peer review processes.
• Collaborating with a diverse team of engineers, physicists, and researchers.
About You
You’re technically excellent, detail-oriented, and motivated by complex challenges. You enjoy working on multidisciplinary projects and want to see your work make an impact beyond Earth.
Essential skills & experience:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• 1+ years’ experience in firmware, FPGA, or embedded systems development.
• Proficiency in VHDL, C/C++, and Python.
• Experience with AMD/Xilinx toolchains (Vivado, Vitis, Vitis HLS) or MicroSemi (Libero SoC).
• Experience with DSP, real-time control, and high-speed digital systems.
• Strong understanding of embedded Linux and microprocessor/ARM integration.
Desirable experience:
• Experience developing firmware for satellite or space-based systems.
• Background in digital or hybrid feedback control systems.
• Familiarity with MATLAB/SIMULINK, machine learning for signal analysis, or mesh-networking protocols.
• Use of version control and automated validation/testing tools.
