About the Role
PSD Energy is seeking a highly capable Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of major renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Australia.
This role will see you working across the full commissioning lifecycle, from Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) through to Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and energisation. You will play a critical role in ensuring systems and equipment are installed, tested, and operating in line with design specifications and safety standards.
Working closely with engineers, project teams, and stakeholders, you will help deliver high-quality commissioning outcomes across substations, solar farms, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role includes both workshop-based testing and site-based commissioning activities.
Responsbilities
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on control and protection panels to verify compliance with project specifications
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and test documentation
- Perform testing and commissioning across:
Protection systems and control schemes
PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
Primary plant including transformers, switchgear, and cables
- Carry out Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and support system energisation
- Perform I/O checks, communication verification, sequence validation, and functional testing
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues during FAT, SAT, and site commissioning
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of testing procedures, results, and corrective actions
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and control engineers to ensure seamless system integration
- Liaise with clients, project teams, and equipment vendors to support commissioning activities
- Support training and handover to clients and end users
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant standards, specifications, and safety requirements
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture aligned with company WHS, QMS, and EMS systems
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in commissioning roles within energy, utilities, or infrastructure
- Proven experience commissioning:
Substations
Solar and/or BESS projects
- Strong understanding of:
Electrical systems and protection schemes
Testing methodologies and commissioning processes
Experience with FAT, SAT, and live site commissioning environments
- Exposure to SCADA systems, PLCs, and control systems (configuration and testing level)
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and test procedures
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel to site as required
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical and Drug & Alcohol screening
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance
